CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- While Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court is headed to the full Senate, some women’s advocates say the Judiciary Committee hearings have been good for the #MeToo movement.
Democratic state Sen. Melinda Bush is one of the leaders of the state panel that is recommending sexual harassment policies for political campaigns.
She said Christine Blasey Ford faced hostility and doubt for accusing Judge Kavanaugh of sexual assault. But she doesn’t expect women to shy away from speaking out.
In fact, many women were posting their own stories this week, she said.
“Which was amazing to me,” Bush said. “I think this is a cultural shift that’s going on, and I’m so excited to be a part of it. I’m a woman in my 60s and I’ve been waiting a long time.”
Dorri McWhorter, CEO of the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago, likewise feels women will be energized, not discouraged.
